Festival:
Temple festivals are a special attraction of the state.
Caparisoned elephants with beaded umbrellas, processions
of decorated floats, and ' panchavadhyam ' - musical entertainment
make this a lovely event to witness.
Backwaters:
Backwaters have a significant place in absorbing the beauty of kerala.
The houseboats, traditionally known as "Kettuvallam",
comfortably furnished providing adequate accomodation for a whole family
is one of the most beautiful images of the backwaters.
Paddy Fields & Coconut Farms:
Swaying coconut palms & paddy fields are familiar landscape of Kerala.
This gives a distinctly green touch to the land. Actually Kerala gets its name
from the coconut palms. 'Kerala' means the land of coconuts.
Food:
The food mainly consists of rice, cooked vegetables, fish and meat.
The traditional food of Kerala is boiled rice with a wide variety of cooked
vegetable curries followed by 'Payasam' - sweet, together called "SADHYA".
'Karemeen' a spotted fish is a special gift to it's backwaters.
Onam:
Onam is the state festival. It is celebrated in memory of the wise king Mahabhali
who ruled Kerala centuries before. It is believed that on the day the king visits
Kerala to see his countrymen. The festival is celebrated with full enthusiasm
throughout the state.
